For each Analytics view that is enabled for BigQuery integration, a dataset is added using the view ID as the name. Within each dataset, a table is imported for each day of export. Intraday data is imported approximately three times a day. During the same day, each import of intraday data overwrites the previous import in the same table. When the daily import is complete, the intraday table from the previous day is deleted.

For the current day, until the first intraday import, there is no intraday table. If an intraday-table write fails, then the previous day's intraday table is preserved. Data for the current day is not final until the daily import is complete.

You may notice differences between intraday and daily data based on active user sessions that cross the time boundary of last intraday import. The columns within the export are listed below. In BigQuery, some columns may have nested fields and messages within them.

What's Missing In The Google Analytics BigQuery Export Schema?

Stack Overflow for Teams is a private, secure spot for you and your coworkers to find and share information. When I want to change these to STRING, usually a little prompt appears after clicking on the table that says something along the lines of "re-run the upload with adjusted schema" which allows me to change the type very easily while leaving others, saving me having to write the whole schema again.

But this prompt does not appear every time, my first question is:. Learn more. Exporting a schema from BigQuery Ask Question. Asked 1 year, 10 months ago. Active 1 year, 10 months ago. If anyone knows of a way to do this from the web UI that would be amazing. Ryan Ryan 39 7 7 bronze badges. For the 2nd part stackoverflow. Sorry, I have a habit of reading half a requirement! In the web UI, the only way you can do something similar is to literally select and copy the schema. No need to apologise, thanks for the answer! Seems like the quickest way I've found, but I know that BQ has the schema available as you can get it from the command you linked me to.

Within a BigQuery Dataset, Funnel will create one table per calendar month. This structure has been chosen to support the BigQuery wildcard queries that should allow you to select all your Funnel data with a single query, or look at only a single month or year more efficiently. Funnel can automatically create a view for you that combines the monthly data. See 'Export configuration' for more on this.

Funnel can automatically create a Dataset for you; this is enabled by default but can be configured. See below for more on this. In Funnel, select "Data Warehouse" in the left hand side navigation and click the "New Export" button to setup a new export. Choose Google BigQuery as the destination for your export and enter a name.

You can also use advanced settings to change the name of the monthly tables. Once you have entered your details you should verify that everything is correctly set up by clicking the 'Test access' button.

Next you should click the Choose dimensions and metrics By default data from is exported but you can change the date range and restrict the data by changing the Date range and Filter data settings.

You can also choose to only export periods where the data has changed. In the 'Choose currency' section you can decide if you want monetary values converted to a specific currency or use the original currency they are reported in. Finally choose a schedule for when the export should be run. Once everything is set up you can review your configuration. If it looks good you need to toggle the Enabled switch in the top right hand corner. The first export will run according to the schedule you specified.

In case you wish to verify that everything works as intended you can click the Run now button.

Alternatively, you can use schema auto-detection for supported data formats. When you load Avro, Parquet, ORC, Firestore export files, or Datastore export files, the schema is automatically retrieved from the self-describing source data.

After loading data or creating an empty table, you can modify the table's schema definition. When you specify a table schema, you must supply each column's name and data type.

You may optionally supply a column's description and mode. The maximum column name length is characters. A column name cannot use any of the following prefixes:.

Duplicate column names are not allowed even if the case differs. For example, a column named Column1 is considered identical to a column named column1. Each column can include an optional description. The description is a string with a maximum length of 1, characters. BigQuery standard SQL allows you to specify the following data types in your schema.

Data type is required. You can also declare an array type when you query data. For more information, see Working with arrays. BigQuery supports the following modes for your columns. Mode is optional. For more information on modes, see mode in the TableFieldSchema. When you load data or create an empty table, you can manually specify the table's schema using the Cloud Console, the classic BigQuery web UI or the command-line tool. In the Cloud Console, you can specify a schema using the Add field option or the Edit as text option. Go to the Cloud Console. On the Create table page, in the Source section, select Empty table.

While the raw data opens up infinite possibilities, it also means that most Google Analytics Metrics and some Dimensions are not included in the export. BigQuery is a structured, table-based SQL database.

In the BigQuery export, each row represents a session. Inside each session is the hit, custom dimensions, and other information about the session and hits. Below is an illustration of some of the fields within the export. Note that the session-level custom dimensions hits are repeated within the session and how the hit-level custom dimensions are repeated within each hit; this is one of the special properties of BigQuery: repeated fields. Since no metrics are contained within BigQuery, let us first examine methods to compute them.

To count only sessions with transactions, we can filter on totals. Using the above example, we could find all days with more than 70 sessions.

Since the LondonCycleHelmet dataset is only a single day, the results are immediately useful. Now let us consider a slightly more advanced example: computing the metric ga:percentNewSessions with dimensions of ga:mediumwe can aggregate the number of sessions by a count of all and a count of new sessions, GROUP ed BY trafficSource.

We, unfortunately, cannot aggregate by averaging the new sessions flag in the export, because it is set to NULLinstead of 0, if the session is not new; and aggregates ignore null values, i. We can also compute multiple metrics at once. Additionally, we are not limited to the 7 dimensions and 10 metrics that the Google Analytics API limits us to. Some dimensions are simple to compute, while others require more ingenuity. Often these require subqueries, like we have seen earlier.

It is the first segment of the ga:pagePath hits. However, we still need to bring along values we want to use later. For instance, if we wanted to compute the bounce rate per ga:pagePathLevel1we should bring along totals.

In the case of Content Groupings that can be based on data already in the export e. We are finding the visitStartTime of the previous session chronologically, and combining it with the visitStartTime of the current session to compute the days between the previous and current session.BigQuery is playing an increasingly vital role in the data strategy of many organizations.
